The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots entered their game against rival Fort Dale holding on to slim hopes of securing a playoff berth. That hope went out the window Friday night when they were shutout in Greenville 21-0.

The Patriots turned the ball over on two interceptions and a fumble and the offense could never gain enough steam to punch the ball in the end zone.

Pike’s first four drives of the game resulted in two punts a turnover on downs and an interception.

Fort Dale was able to capitalize on the first touchdown of the game when they went on an 18-play drive that went 77 yards culminating with a 10-yard touchdown run.

The Patriots stared the second half with a fumble and the second interception of the game to nullify a four play 21-yard drive.

The game was close until the final quarter when Fort Dale connected on a 34-yard touchdown pass. After a three and out by the Patriots, Fort Dale was able to score their second touchdown in under two minutes when they ran the ball from five yards out to give them a 21-0 lead.

Aside from the turnovers, the Patriots struggled on the offensive side of the ball, finishing with just 123 yards, all through the air. Quarterback Reed Jinright completed seven of his 17 attempts for 123 yards. Reed Johnson led the team in rushing.

The Patriots end their season with a 4-5 overall record and a 1-5 record within the region.
