The Pike County Bulldogs hope to stay undefeated and keep their shutout streak alive Friday night when the Dale County Warriors visit Bulldog Stadium.

The Pike County Bulldogs head into tonight’s game against Dale County having outscored their opponents 110-0 so far this season, and the players are looking to continue that streak.

“We are just trying to get better this week. Dale County is another region game for us,” said Bulldogs head coach Fred Holland. “They will be tough. They played a tough opponent last week against Charles Henderson. They have been playing some good teams. You can learn a lot from that, and I think we will have a good game.”

The Warriors come into Brundidge a week after making a trip into Troy to play Charles Henderson, losing 63-20 in what Holland said could be a deceptive score considering the talent on the Dale County team.

“They are really big up front. They don’t possess a lot of speed but they do a good job at what they do,” Holland said. “They are going to rotate two different quarterbacks and three running backs that can cause a lot of problems for you.”

Still, that Warrior offense will face a Bulldog defense that has shut down every opponent so far this season.

“We do a good job on defense in terms of preparing, and this is another game that we have to prepare for,” Holland said. “We have to prepare to do some things that can help us. I just hope that we continue to play well.”

Holland believes that the Bulldogs are so fundamentally sound on defense because they are willing to do the work needed to succeed.

“I think you can play better when you limit the thinking,” Holland said. “I think the guys do a good job at accepting what we are trying to do. They look forward to executing it.”

On the offense side of the ball, the Bulldogs have weapons all over the field. Deshon Cowling and Kamari Jackson are dangerous in the backfield and a threat to score every time they touch the ball.

Quarterback Jerrell Lawson is the leader on offense and keeps getting better each week.

“He is a great kid. He does a great job at preparing for a game,” Holland said. “He is a leader and it doesn’t take much to get him going. He is real good at accepting coaching and being able to prepare each week.”

Kick off between the Warriors and Bulldogs will be at 7 p.m. at Pike County High School.
