The Charles Henderson Middle School Trojans improved their record to a perfect 3-0 on Tuesday evening after defeating Carver Middle school 28-6.

The Trojans matched up against what coach Will Garner called the best team they have seen all year in Carver and played good football from the first whistle to the last.

The Trojans continued a trend of mixing things up offensively but relied a little bit more on their starting quarterback’s arm.

“We relied on Pooka Jones’ arm a little more tonight,” Garner said. “He threw the ball really well tonight.”

Carver came out and scored on the opening drive to put the Trojans down by six early, but the Trojans answered back and scored the game’s final 28 points.

“They marched it right down the field and scored,” Garner said. “We came back with a quick score after to tie the game. After that the offense starting clicking for us.

From there the Trojans were able to get things going with help of good play on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Turnovers and penalties have been something that the Trojans have wanted to fix over the first weeks of the season. Both of those areas were cleaned up during the win.

“It’s a huge win for our guys’ confidence,” Garner said. “It’s huge because this week we have been preaching to them that tonight is step one of reaching our goal which is the championship game. They knew that this game may ultimately decide if we make that championship game or not. They came out and handled their business and did what they were supposed to.”

After a win against Carver the Trojans will get tested again next week when they play Honeysuckle in Dothan.

“Next week we are playing an even better football team,” Garner said. “We played great tonight, but we have stuff we need to work on and make sure that we are even better next week.”

After the win Tuesday night Garner hopes that this confidence and momentum will carry over into practice starting Wednesday afternoon.

“We have been preaching all week that 2-0 is great but 3-0 will be even better,” Garner said. “After tonight 3-0 is great but 4-0 will be that much better. We are trying to let them know not to be satisfied after winning a few ball games there is a bigger picture down at the end of the road.”

Kick off between Charles Henderson and Honeysuckle will be at 6:30 in Dothan.
