The Charles Henderson Middle School football team received two special team touchdowns Tuesday night en route to a 14-6 win over Coppinville in Enterprise on Tuesday night.

Malcolm Hall returned a punt and kick off for a touchdown in Tuesday’s win over Coppinville. Overall, head coach Will Garner said he liked what he saw from his team in the season opener that is sure to bring nerves and excitement.

“It was definitely a first game,” Garner said. “We had a lot of things that went really well and lot of things that we need to work on. We had a lot of costly turnovers and penalties. With all that being said, our guys really rose to the occasion offensively and defensively to pull out a huge win for us.”

Other than the two special team touchdowns both team’s defenses played extremely well, holding each other to a combined 20 points.

“We played well, had to make a couple adjustments late to stop the there running game,” Garner said. “They were really gashing us, so we made a few adjustments. Our defense held really tight down in the red zone and did a good job keeping them out of the end zone.”

The offense played well Tuesday night for the Trojans, but costly turnovers held Charles Henderson back most of the evening.

“Offense moved the ball really well. We only had one punt throughout the entire ball game,” Garner said. “With that being said, we had a lot of holding calls. We also had a few big plays that called back due to penalties. There were little mistakes that kept our offense from completely kicking tonight.”

The Trojans running attack was another positive for Garner and the Trojans and it is something he feels that he can rely on later in the season.

The Trojans will take their 1-0 record into next week’s match up with Girard at home. Kick off is scheduled for 5:30.
