Charles Henderson High School hosted a meet the Trojans event Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Both the varsity and middle school football teams strapped on the pads and experienced what the Friday games under the lights will be like in the near future.

Before the opening kick off, both football teams along with the cheerleaders from both the high school and middle schools were announced to the crowd by Mike Amos.

“This is the best idea I have seen in a long time. We are able to see the middle school scrimmage along with the varsity,” Amos said. “Don’t you know it makes these middle school players want to wear the Trojan helmet some day. They take a lot of pride in this tonight. It has to be wonderful for these young middle school players.”

After practicing on the field for the last two weeks the varsity Trojans have spent the last two Friday nights scrimmaging and preparing for the start of the regular season.

Although their first scrimmage last Friday was for preparation, this Friday’s scrimmage was more about giving back to the community and giving them a first hand look of what to see come the fall.

“It’s a way for all our kids to be together as a program and it lets everyone play a part in kicking off the season,” said CHHS Trojan varsity coach Brad McCoy.

After the opening kick off the varsity offense matched up with the defense for six plays, and then the middle school team took over and ran for a set of four plays.

The scrimmage format gave both teams the opportunity to get quality work in under the lights of Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Varsity Trojans will kick off their 2015 season on Aug. 21 when they host the Pike County Bulldogs in a preseason match up. Kick off between the Trojans and Bulldogs is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
