Entering the championship game, Fairhope had lost one game prior in the tournament, meaning that they would have had to beat Troy twice on Monday to secure the championship.

Troy jumped out early and scored the games first nine runs and jumped out to an early 9-0 lead over Fairhope.

Fairhope did not go away, they chipped away and tied the game at nine in the third inning. After the game was tied Troy exploded and scored was able to retake the lead in the fourth when they scored five runs in the fourth inning. “It was a total group effort in the tournament,” said Troy head coach Adam Brookins. “We had awesome defense, and we had some key hits when we needed them.”

The championship closed out a great tournament, Troy beat Eufaula 13-3 in round two. McBryde, Pruitt Vaughn and Edwards all had three hits in the game.

They followed that win with a victory over Daphne 6-5. After leading 1-0 through the first few innings, Daphne was able to take the lead before Troy was able to win scoring five runs in the final innings to knock off Daphne.

Troy took that momentum and went on to beat Selma 11-3 before facing off with Daphne once again.

Troy played really well defensively was able to get another one run victory.

“We played really defensively the entire time,” Brookins said. “I couldn’t be more pleased with how they grew as a team. Their playing for each other and that really shows with how they are playing on the field.”

When the team started practice at the beginning of June many of the players were new to one another, but they grew together into a championship baseball team.

“It’s been wonderful watching these guys mature from the first all-star practice to what they were able to accomplish this weekend,” Brookins said.

With the championship now secured Troy advances to play in the World Series in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The World Series will run from Aug. 2 through Aug. 6.
