All-Star teams heading to State Tournament

With the District Tournaments in the rear view mirror, eight local all-star teams are gearing for the State tournaments, starting Thursday afternoon.

Eight Troy teams are gearing up for a run in state softball and baseball tournaments.

The Belles represent Troy as the only softball team to make the trip to state, while seven of the eight tournament baseball teams advanced to the state tournaments.

After going undefeated in both the sub district and district tournaments and outscoring their opponents 105-10, the Belles drew a first-round bye for the tournament in Greenville. They will play the winner of Underwood and Montgomery on at 6 p.m. Saturday on Field 4.

Of the baseball teams, the Coach Pitch team is coming off a District championship in Enterprise after going a perfect 4-0. They start their state tournament in Prattville with a first round matchup with the District 2 champion, Oxford-Black. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Friday on Field 5.

The Troy Machine Pitch team heads into the state tournament in Tuscaloosa with a first round matchup against Tuscumbia at 3 p.m. Friday on Field 2.

The AAA Rookie team lost the first game of their district tournament and battled back to win the championship. They travel to Oxford for the state tournament and will get things started this afternoon when they play Decatur-National at 2 p.m. on Field 2.

After an unconventional district tournament that pitted the Ozone Rookie team up against Enterprise in a best two-out-of-three series, the Rookies come into their state tournament in Oxford ready to play. They kick things off with a first round matchup against Decatur-National at 4 p.m. today.

The Ozone Tournament team will have to wait an extra week to begin their state tournament in Centreville. They begin round one of the tournament on July 17 against the Fairhope-Nationals at Davis Field at 5 p.m.

Unlike the other tournament teams from Troy, both the Dixie Boys and Dixie Junior Boys have yet to play a meaningful game leading into their state tournament. Over the past month both teams have worked hard at practice while sprinkling in a few practiwwce games to get ready for state.

Both teams will be participating in the Dixie Boys State Tournament in Troy starting on July 18.

The Dixie Boys will kick off their first round with a matchup against South-Mekalb at 7 p.m. on July 18 on Field 3.

The Junior Boys will begin with a first-round game on July 18 against Auburn at 7 p.m. on Field 6.
