The Troy Parks and Recreation Department will host a youth basketball camp July 27-31 at the Sportsplex. The camp will run each day from 8 a.m. until noon.

“It’s our sixth year running the camp,” said Justin Cope. “It is just a great way to give back to the community and help the kids get better at playing basketball. It also helps the kids in the community to stay active, it gives them something to do.”

Each day at the camp will offer something new for the kids to learn, from shooting drills to passing drills.

“We have both the courts reserved for us during the week to work on drills,” Cope said. “One day we will work on ball drills, and another we will work on shooting and defense. We will kind of be doing it all.”

Camp will conclude with three tournaments for the participants. There will be tournament games for the older age kids, middle-aged kids, and the younger kids.

As well as the end of the camp tournament, the kids will also be competing for individual awards that will be handed out by the various camp counselors.

“We will be giving out certificates and awards at the end of the week,” Cope said. “ The awards will be given to kids with the best attitude, best effort, best ball handling, and shooter. Anything that I can think of to get the kids, I will give out.”

The camp is open players ages 7 to 16. All kids interested in the camp will pay a one-time fee of $15. Each camper will receive a t-shirt as well as snacks and drinks throughout the camp.

Registration is open now through 8 a.m. on the first day of the camp. Participants can register at the front desk of the Sportsplex.
