With two warm-up tournaments under their belt, the Troy AAA Tournament Team opens district play on June 22.

After competing in two warm-up tournaments Troy has a combined 2-2 record after playing in the Auburn University-Montgomery Warm up Tournament two weekends ago and playing this past weekend in Enterprise Jamboree Tournament.

Although Coach Al Renfroe said players had their sites on winning in the two tournaments, one of the main objectives was to get a look at the team in competition.

“I think our primary objective during the tournaments was to get a look at as many pitchers as we could, and give players as many innings as we could,” Renfroe said. “We really approached it more of a true warm-up style, and used it more as practice more than going out to win it.”

During the tournaments, Renfroe has been very pleased with how his team has performed.

“We have looked OK, and hit the ball well. We have looked well on defense as well,” Renfroe said. “I think we will use what we did over the last two weekends to figure out our rotation going into district.”

Hard work on pitching and taking good at bats is something Troy will be working on over the next week to prepare for their tournament in Slocomb.

“The two things we have preached at practice has been for our pitchers to throw more strikes and we need our batters to take better swings,” Renfroe said. “That has kind of been our mantra that we have been working on. If we can do those two things I think we can be very successful.”

Even though team has played well together for the last few weeks, Renfroe said players like Tyler Martin, Payne Jefcoat, and Landon Tyler have excelled in the last two tournaments by hitting the ball well.

“We have had a lot of guys make some plays for us, KC Bradford has looked good, and Cade Renfroe has made some good plays in the outfield,” Renfroe said. “As a team that have looked really good.”

Joining Martin, Jefcoat, Tyler, Bradford, and Renfroe on the Troy Tournament team are: Parker Adams, Logan Boothe, Zachorian Cantlow, Jackson Cleveland, Landon Johnson, Joshua Stamey, and Will Templin.

Bobby Temlin and Ty Martin join Renfroe on the team’s coaching staff.
