Troy’s Top 10 Impact Players of 2013: Bryan Holmes
Published 3:27 pm Wednesday, July 3, 2013
This is a series of 10 Troy players to watch in 2013. Their successes/failures will play a big impact on the Trojans’ season.
10. Camren Hudson – 7/3
9. Bryan Holmes – 7/3
Bryan Holmes has some big shoes to fill. While Eric Thomas will technically be taking over Chip Reeves spot at the X-receiver position, Holmes is the guy the coaches feel has the skill set to physically replace the speedy Reeves.
Clocked at 4.48 in the 40-yard dash out of Union County High School (Reeves ran a 4.47 at Pro Day), the now-sophomore will likely get a shot to be Corey Robinson’s go-to deep receiver. Obviously Thomas has shown he can break away from defenders in the post and on the sideline (Example: Tennessee) but he does it with size, athleticism and great route-running. Holmes, however, can flat fly.
Holmes had just one catch last year for six yards but you could tell early in spring that he would be a bigger factor in Troy’s offensive gameplan.
It will be interesting how offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield uses Holmes early in the year. He isn’t a big name compared to Robinson or Thomas but his athletic ability won’t be easy to hide for long.
