Election officials predict strong turnout for today’s primaries

Election officials are optimistic about the number of voters heading to the polls today for party primaries.

“I really think we are going to have a good turnout,” said Melissa Ingram, chairman of the Pike County Board of Registrars. “With the presidential candidates on the ballot, I believe people will want to get out and vote.”

There has been some concern among candidates that voter turnout might be low because of the back-and-forth redistricting issues Pike County faced this year.

“As far as this election goes, there have been no changes. People will vote in the primary election and for any run-offs under their old district lines,” Ingram said.

If voters aren’t sure where they should fill out their ballot, Ingram said to call the Board of Registrars office at 566-1757. Voters can also log on to myinfo.alabamavotes.gov and fill out a short form where residents can confirm where they should go to fill out their ballot.

If a voter shows up at the wrong polling place and doesn’t want to travel to his assigned location, he can vote by provisional ballot, Ingram said, adding that a regular ballot was a much better choice.

“Voting is one of the most important rights we’ve been given as American citizens,” Ingram said. “We need to exercise that right.”

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. today.

Voters in District 1 will vote in Precincts 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7. Precinct 1’s polling place is at Academy Street School, Precinct 2 is at the Meeksville Fire Department, Precinct 3 is at China Grove, Precinct 5 is at Dunn’s Voting Center and Precinct 7 is at the Saco Fire Department.

All District 2 residents will vote in Precinct 6 at the Adams Armory in Troy.

District 3 voters will vote in Precincts 8, 12, 13 and 28. Precinct 8’s polling place is the Ebenezer Co. Building, Precinct 12 is at Banks City Hall, Precinct 13 is at the Troy Recreation Center and Precinct 28 residents should report to Dunn’s Voting Center No. 2.

In District 4, people will vote in Precincts 4, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Precinct 4 is Hamilton Cross Roads, Precinct 9’s polling place is the Josie Co. Building, Precinct 10 is the Enon Co. Building, Precinct 14 is at Haisten Hardware, Precinct 15 is at Tennille-Trawick Sign Co., Precinct 16 residents should go to the Tarentum Community Clubhouse, Precinct 17 voters will report to the Springhill Fire Department and Precinct 18’s polling place is the Little Oak Co. Building.

District 5 voters will report to Precincts 11, 19, 20 and 21. Precinct 11 voters should go to Mount Pillar Church, Brundidge Galloway Park is the spot for Precinct 19, Precinct 20 will vote at the Springhill Housing Authority and Precinct 21 is at the Pike County Courthouse.

If Pike County residents are in District 6, their voting precincts are 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27. First Baptist Church in Troy is the polling place for Precinct 22, Henderson Fire Department is the location for Precinct 23, Precinct 24 voters will go to Goshen’s Town Hall, Precinct 25’s spot is Rural Home Highway 29, Precinct 26 voters will report to the Shellhorn Antioch Church of Christ and Oak Bowery Church is the location for Precinct 27 voters.
