Sunday quick hits

I was hoping to hear back with some recruiting notes by now but no luck. Will update this post when I do.

Troy hosted several recruits this weekend (not nearly as many as last weekend) but the social media chatter has been light.

Montres Kitchens (RB/S) posted on DeVonte Lambert’s (DE) Facebook that he planned on signing with the Trojans. I did confirm with recruiting coordinator Randy Butler that Kitchens had, indeed, committed during his visit.

A couple of guys who visited last weekend took a look at other schools. Wide receiver and soft verbal commit (whatever that means) Cody Core visited Kentucky and defensive end Marquez Pride went to Western Kentucky. According to Drew Champlin of the Dothan Eagle, Pride has committed to WKU.

Last night’s basketball game was a welcomed change of pace for Trojan fans. Troy averted losing five straight on their home court for the first time since 1969-70 and tied an NCAA record for 11 consecutive three-pointers (game story here). The first came on a buzzer-beater by Emil Jones to end the first half. Jones also ended the stretch with a miss from straight on.

What I liked most about Emil’s comments after the game (see them here) was not about the streak but how the shot at the buzzer affected ULM saying it was a “back-breaker”.

This team has struggled of late but noone wants to win more than these guys. They have a ton of pride and with Will Weathers playing better Saturday (12 points, 12 assists) they could be dangerous down the stretch.
