Once again, it is time for the Pioneer Shopping Village and Flea Market to roll out the hay wagon and invite everybody down for the fun and frolic of the Pioneer Day Festival.

The Festival is scheduled from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on April 4-5, and there is not an admission charge. Everyone is invited to come out spend the day the pioneer way.

“We’ve got two days of entertainment and fun planned,” said G.V. Griffin, Pioneer Village manager. “We have all kinds of games planned. For the kids, we have the Moonwalk, Go Fishing and Pick Up Ducks. A lady will be here with either a milking cow or calves that can be bottle-fed.

“We’ll have an Easter egg hunt for the children at 3 p.m. on Sunday and encourage parents to bring their children out for this fun event. And, of course, we have the hayride for all ages and people can play horseshoes or race a remote control car.”

And what would a festival be without a cakewalk. So there will be plenty of cakes and lots of walking to do.

The Pioneer Day Festival will offer opportunities to participate in some “just off the farm” games such as the corn toss and the apple tug-of-war.

“The corn toss is where a hole is drilled in a board and you try to throw a pound bag of shelled corn through the hole,” Griffin said. “And, you’ll just have to come and see the apple tug-of-war.”

Barbecue plates will be available for $5 each and there will also be hot dogs and other snack foods for sale.

The festival also features a crosscut sawing demonstration, displays of antique tractors and car, arts and crafts and entertainment by the Christianaires from North Alabama.

The Blood Drive bus will be at the site from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“We invite everyone to join us for the 2009 Pioneer Day Festival on Saturday and Sunday,” Griffin said. “Admission is free, so come and have a good time.”
