It was a soggy, muddy start to the District Softball Tournament in Greenville Friday night due to a rainstorm that passed through the Greenville area a short time before first pitch was scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Rakes were out in full force during the delay in efforts to start the game as soon as possible. In the end the delay lasted just over an hour before the teams were able to hit the field.

Four teams in the District Tournament, The Darlings, Angels, Ponytails represent Troy, and Belles are all hoping to leave Greenville as District Champions.

The Belles were the only team out of the four that did not play Friday night due to a first round bye.

Al though all three were affected to the delay, the Darlings first round match up with Dothan was the game in the delay.

Players, coaches and fans all had to put their excitement and eagerness to play on hold during the rain delay.

The players were not the only ones ready to hit the filed during the delay, the coaching staff had to patiently wait for the start of round one.

The players didn’t let the conditions damper their pleasure Friday night. One-by-one the girls were either playing catch with a teammate or running to the concession stand to get water and sunflower seeds before the game. All efforts were maid in the hour-long delay to make sure that all the playing conditions were safe for the players and fair for competition.
