Spring Hill store clerk murdered, suspect still at large

Published 10:47pm Saturday, November 23, 2013

The Clerk at the Hill Mart convenience store in Spring Hill was fatally shot Saturday night during an apparent robbery.

Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said the store clerk was shot once behind the counter and died shortly after. The suspect is still at large.

“Sometime shortly after 8 p.m., a customer pulled in to the store to purchase gas,” Thomas said. “She didn’t see the clerk inside, and when she went to the door she noticed there were numerous items strewn around on the floor. At 8:08, our deputy arrived and he found the clerk, 51 years of age, lying face down behind the counter.”

The investigation is still ongoing, and Thomas said the incident is being looked in to as a robbery and murder. He is also asking the public for help in apprehending the perpetrator.

“We are asking for the public’s help,” Thomas said. “We are looking for any information about the person or persons responsible for this crime. There will be a sustainable cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.”

Thomas said anyone with information can contact the Pike County Sheriff’s department at (334) 566-4347 or contact any law enforcement agency.

Geez……That is terrible. How many bad things have to happen here before this store is closed for good? They should just sell it to the sheriff’s department and let them put an office there to hopefully squash some of the crime in the area.

Whomever the judge is that gives the conviction, please fry this worthless pathetic piece of garbage. He made the decision to kill a good man in cold blood over what? $200? One less mouth the hardworking tax payers have to feed.
