Young farmers in Pike County will be able to sit down face to face with other farmers in the Wiregrass next week to swap ideas and share stories.

ALFA Young Farmers District Seven and the Pike County Young Farmers are inviting young farmers in the district to enjoy dinner and fellowship with each other and U.S. Rep. Martha Roby.

“This is a time where all young farmers can get together and sit in the same room and share their ideas and concerns,” said Grant Lyons with the Pike County Cooperative Extension office and Pike County Young Farmers.

The dinner is held once a year and the location circulates throughout District Seven.

“We are proud to be the host county of this year’s District Seven meeting,” said Pike County Young Farmers Chairman Claire Flowers. “We look forward to seeing young farmers from all over the wiregrass region.”

Roby will speak about her dealings with agricultural issues and listen to problems and tasks local farmers face on a day-to-day basis, Lyons said.

The dinner will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the Pike County Cattlemen’s Building on U.S. Highway 231 in Troy.

Pike County Young Farmers is a division of the ALFA Alabama Farmer’s Federation and next Tuesday’s event is made possible by the Pike County Cattlemen, ALFA, SunSouth and First South Farm Credit, Lyons said.
