Chalk Talk event allows for fan interaction

Roughly fifty students and fans of Troy University gathered in the Trojan Center Theatre on Monday evening to take part in the first ever Chalk Talk event.

The event was hosted by the sports and fitness management club and allowed members of the public to ask questions to some to Troy Athletics’ most key entities.

Eric Williamson, general manager of Troy IMG Sports, Chanda Rigby, head women;s baskeball coach, Larry Blakeney, head football coach and Sandy Atkins , associate director of athletics each had a turn addressing the crowd on the state of Trojan sports and what lay in the future.

After each session, fans were allowed to ask questions.

Williamson spoke on how the Troy brand brings in potential sponsors, and donors.

Rigby spoke on the new attitude of the basketball program and how the state-of-the-art Trojan Arena has influenced recruiting.

Blakeney addressed the audience on how the tradition of Troy football is a rich part of the university, and that his teams try to carry on and live up the tradition every day.

Atkins spoke to the assembly on how the university and athletics department is positioning itself in the ever changing landscape of conference realignment.

Atkins also informed those gathered that the Sun Belt Conference has added two new schools, Appalachian State and Georgia Southern, to its membership and looks for more additions in the future

The Chalk Talk event was the first ever event of its kind, and a member of the club said that more events are planned in the future.
