"Trading with people you trust."

That’s how Sheer Qualls sums up the benefits of shopping at home in Pike County this Christmas season.

It’s a good analogy.

As we tick down the days to Christmas, thousands of us face last-minute shopping dilemmas. And the best place to do that last-minute shopping is right here at home, where we have friendly, home-town merchants with a vested interest in providing good customer service to the communities in which they live.

By shopping at home, we can invest in the economy of Pike County

from the direct support to retailers and merchants to the boost in the sales tax revenues, which in turn help our county and city provide the services we expect from good government.

Economists have estimated that a dollar spent locally turns over some seven times in the economy, from the actual purchase transaction to the sales tax to the payroll to an employee’s trip to the grocery store. That means shopping at home can yield a seven-fold investment in our community and our economy.

And we think that’s a wise investment for each of us to make.
