After Trojan starter Marcus Bell retired Auburn rightfielder Sean Gamble in the first, the Tigers connected on four singles, two doubles and a sacrifice fly to account for the five earned runs.

Sophomore Mal Winters started the second inning for the Trojans and gave up three singles and a home run as Auburn stretched its lead to 10-0. Gamble’s triple to left center scored Scott Schade and Jonathan Schuerholtz, both of whom reached on Troy State errors. Troy State centerfielder Coby Smith went 3-for-4 with three singles and extended his career-best hitting streak to nine games. Designated hitter Wade Miller extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a 1-for-3 performance. Miller’s streak is the longest by a Trojan since Marek Driver and Casey Smith each recorded 13-game streaks during the 2000 season.

Auburn was led by Mike Mueller who went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run in the second inning. Five other Tigers collected two hits, with Trent Pratt driving in three runs.

Bell (1-2) suffered his second loss of the season in his shortest career outing. Eric Brandon (1-0) lasted four innings and struck out four as he earned his first win of the season.

Troy State will return to action Friday when it plays host to Middle Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field. The game will be televised by Comcast/Charter Sports.
