According to police reports, Simmons and another teenager had an altercation at the restaurant.

As a crowd gathered outside, Simmons fired several shots, striking a vehicle and a bystander.

The crowd and those involved quickly dispersed, witnesses said.

At the time of the shooting, no injuries were reported. Police began to unravel the case only after the teenager went to a Montgomery hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound to his lower back.

The teenagers had attended the Alabama High School Athletic Association Regional Basketball Tournament held at Troy State University earlier in the day.
