The Charles Henderson Trojans Track and Field team took first place honors in four events, winning the sectional championship by five points to advance to the Class 5A state meet this weekend at the University of Alabama.

The Trojans held off a late challenge from Booker T. Washington to win the Section 2 title 94 to 89.

CHHS’s Deandra Carlisle (2:09) and Patrick Maldon (2:15.5) finished first and second in the 800-meter run, while the Trojans’ 1600-meter relay team, made-up of Jacquez Williams, Maldon, Carlisle and Quinton White, took the top spot in that event as well with a time of 3-minutes, 35 seconds.

Maldon and Carlisle, again, combined with Patrice Brooks and Byron Williams on the 3200-relays to win that race also.

Melvin Scott was first in the shot put with a throw of 41-7.

In the 400, Greg Tate, White, Fernando White and Rod Burden were second (44.37). Aubrey Williams was third in the long jump, hitting a mark of 19-3, while Jason Thomas finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 40-8-1/4. Charles Henderson’s Quinton White was third with a 39-2.

Sylacauga took third place at the meet with a score of 75 and Wetumpka came in fourth place with a point total of 67. Russell County had 59 points and finished fifth.

Both Pike County girl’s and boy’s teams will be making their appearance this weekend at the Class 3A state meet at Troy State University.

The Lady Bulldogs took first in the Section 1 meet held in Mobile this past weekend, beating W.S. Neal 124 to 111, and were led by Tamela Foster, LaQeunta Tarver and Wennica Foster in the track events. Bobbie Ginn and Molly Reeves led Pike County in the field events.

The Bulldogs finished second to W.S. Neal. Sean Foster, Jarvis Wilson, and Calvin Marshall were tops on the track. Joe Copes and Eddie Meadows led Pike County in the field events.
