BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Troy State’s scheduled Saturday doubleheader at Campbell has been rained out and rescheduled for Monday morning. The two schools will wrap-up their Atlantic Sun Conference series with two 7-inning games beginning at 10 a.m. Eastern Time.

The teams could not play on Sunday due to a school policy at Campbell that prohibits Sunday competition. The Camels won Friday night’s opener, 11-9, after scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

After Troy State had tied the game in the top of the eighth on a Drew Miller grand slam, Campbell got to Trojan reliever Doug Atkins for three runs on four hits, including a Nic Carter RBI triple that gave the Camels a 9-8 lead.

Troy State’s Daryl Griggs had a team-high three hits, including a double and two runs scored. Drew Miller finished with four RBIs. The Trojans left 12 men on base and hit into three double plays.

Troy State dropped to 23-25 overall and 11-11 in the A-Sun, while Campbell snapped a nine-game conference losing streak to improve to 17-26 and 6-16.

Troy State got on the board first when Wade Miller scored from third on a Camel throwing error. After advancing to third on Daryl Griggs’ single through the left side, Miller was held by Mayotte but scampered home when Johnny Keelan’s throw got away from the catcher.

Campbell took its first lead of the game with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Camels strung together six consecutive hits, including back-to-back RBI-doubles by Kyle Elenz and Tom Rispoli.

The Trojans regained the lead by scoring one in the third and two in the fourth. Troy State loaded the bases in the fourth via a double, an error and a walk. Griggs, who led off the inning with a double to the gap in left center, scored on a wild pitch and Coby Smith scored from third on a double play two batters later.

The Camels added another run in the sixth when Carter scored on Jason Brown’s sacrifice fly to right field. Carter went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Drew Miller tied the game at 8-8 in the eighth when he hit his first career grand slam over the right field wall. It was his seventh home run of the season. The Trojans’ good fortune was short lived as the Camels responded with some fireworks of their own in the bottom of the eighth.

Troy State starter Aaron Hunt left the game in the fifth inning after taking a line drive off the chest. He allowed five runs on 11 hits in four-plus innings of work. Atkins fell to 1-2 after allowing three runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Campbell reliever Derrick Scott earned the win in relief despite giving up the game-tying grand slam in the eighth. He improved to 3-1 after working 0.2 innings and allowing just two hits.

Monday’s second game will be carried live on the Troy State Sports Network, with Ralph Black calling all of the action. Air-time on WTBF-FM 94.7 in Troy is scheduled for 11:50 a.m. EDT.
