The Troy City Council voted to approve an off premises retail beer license and an off premises retail table wine license at the city council meeting Tuesday night.

Interstate Oil, with a location on U.S. 231 across from Taco Bell, has been sold to a company out of Slidell, La., and has been renamed Purple Cow Store 321.

The Troy location was approved for beer and wine licenses without much discussion from the council because the store is maintaining former Interstate Oil employees and there were no local warrants or issues with the store.

The council also held a public hearing before approving the rezoning of a section of land on the east side of South Brundidge Street at Madison Street. The city’s planning commission previously said there was no issue with rezoning the area behind a current apartment construction site. The section of property had inadvertently not been included in a former rezoning request.

There was no public discussion on the rezoning and the council passed the ordinance.

With no more business to discuss, Mayor Jimmy Lunsford conveyed news of the resignation of a Troy Board of Adjustments and Troy Board of Education member.

Al Jones is being transferred by Wells Fargo to a location in Birmingham.

“He is a bright young man and I hate to see him go,” Lunsford said

The mayor also mentioned advertising will begin for bids on the nutrition center project Wednesday, and those ads will run for three weeks before they will be opened “as soon as possible.”
