Troy Post 70 wins first game at state tournament

From Special Reports – Chase Kelly scored from second base on a critical error by Foley in the fifth inning, allowing Post 70 to take a 1-0 win in the first round of the American Legion State Junior Varsity Tournament in Birmingham on Thursday.

Troy advances to face Austin (30-3) on Friday at 4 p.m.

Kelly both reached and advanced to second on an unforced error in the fifth.

Abbeville Christian’s Stephen Morelock pitched the full seven innings for Post 70, striking out four batters and giving up five hits.

Troy totalled six hits in the game, half of those coming off the bat of Jeremy Jones, who was a perfect 3-for-3.

Tyson Pugh, Blake Phelps and Chase Clower each had hits also for Troy.

Austin beat Montgomery Post 210 on Thursday, 4-0.
