Troy Police Lt. David Johnson was the guest of honor at luncheon yesterday at The Pines.

After 25 years as a policeman, "every minute spent at Troy PD," Johnson is retiring.

To honor his years of service, Chief Anthony Everage presented him with a framed display of several items including his badge.

"This is a top notch organization," Johnson said.

"I am familiar with departments across the state and I would put our people up against anyone."

Johnson said the quality and the integrity of the TPD was outstanding and that he is proud to have served but is "gracious enough to get out of their way."

"This is a profession better suited for younger people," Johnson said.

He also said he has great confidence in the younger policemen who may be just a little green compared to this 25-year veteran.

Johnson said one of the things he will miss the most is meeting the public, but that doesn't mean Troy won't see him around.

"I'm ready to start my second career," he said.

"I don't know what that is yet, but I know I'm not going to just sit around on the porch."
