The little guys from Luverne did something no other Luverne team thus far has done, by defeating a Troy All-Star team in their season opener on Saturday evening, 9-4.

Michael D'Arville led the rally of runs with two runs, both following singles.

Then it was Pete King, Adam Sport, Cody Moses, Patrick Smith, Austin Brown and Jamarius Redmon each bringing down a run to the plate.

For Troy it was one run each from Sam Carroll, Michael Benton, Dalton Harris and Dalton Sanders.

The game ended with a phenomenal foul ball caught by Luverne catcher Tate Welch.

Both Benton and Sanders contributed doubles to the game in their attempt to start up a rally for Troy.

As this story goes to press, we are as of yet unsure of the remaining schedule for the week's tournament, as rainy weather will play a large role in the success of scheduling the games.

Highland Home defeats Georgiana in tourney opener

The Dixie 9- and 10-year-old sub-district All-stars tournament opened on Friday evening with Highland Home downing Georgiana by a score of 8-6.

Under cloud-filled skies, the North Crenshaw Countians were led by Daniel Frazier with three runs, and Jordan Harris with two runs. Then it was Jared Edge, Edwin Sankey, and Hootie Wilson each with one trip across the plate.

While Frazier stole five bases, Edge, Sankey and Harris each stole two.

For Georgiana, all players contributing to the score made one run count. They included Justin Beverly, Rodney Cheatham, Cody Chrzastek, Chris Hall, Derrick Blackburn, Devin Bonner and Joseph Udon.

Tate Feagin was the losing pitcher for Georgiana while Dillon Frazier was the winning pitcher for Highland Home.

Greenville downs Brantley, 12-2

The 9- and 10-year-olds from Greenville issued a strong defeat in their tourney opener against Brantley, but the game was postponed in mid-stream after the impending rain doomed the rest of the night's play.

The game was continued from where it left off on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., and Greenville came out on top, 12-2.

Leading the batters across the plate for Greenville was Gray Vinson and Stuart Matthews with two runs each. They were followed with one run apiece from Josh Kay, Ryan Smith, Jay Johnson, Hunter Armstrong, Nathan Branum, Stephen Till, Dylan McNaughton and Charlie Schofield.

For Brantley Andrew Lowery and Chester Person supplied the runs.
