Charles Henderson pitcher Pete Van Horn traveled to Montgomery Monday for the first event in the All-Star Sports Week.

Van Horn started the first game of a doubleheader for the South team. He pitched three innings, allowed one run on one hit and struck out four. The South team won the first game 9-5, but lost the second game of the doubleheader.

"This was great," Van Horn said. "There were a lot of people here, a lot of scouts."

Van Horn, an upcoming senior for the Trojans, helped lead Charles Henderson to the second round of the state playoffs. Steve Garrett's Charles Henderson team lost to eventual state champion St. Paul's on the road to end its season.

Instead of being an adversary, though, of those St. Paul's players, Van Horn was a teammate Monday night. Several other schools were represented as well.

"We all had a great time," Van Horn said. "We all got along great. The players all bonded."

Van Horn said he was mostly pleased with his performance, but he thought he had room for improvement.

"On a scale of 1-to-10, I would rate my play about an eight," Van Horn said. "I was hitting 85, 86, but I didn't hit 89 like I can."
