PELHAM — Zion Chapel High School saw its season come to an end following a 24-26, 12-25, 19-25 loss to Hatton in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 2A quarterfinals at the Elite Eight state tournament Oct. 26 at the Pelham Civic Complex.

Following a two-point loss in the opening set, the Rebels (24-6) couldn’t muster enough energy in the final two sets to avoid a sweep.

Junior middle hitter Kennedy Sanders led Zion Chapel with 12 kills and four blocks in the season-ending loss.

Sophomore setter Whitney Rugg finished with three kills and five digs to go along with a team-high nine assists.

Senior outside hitter Cheyenne Nelson contributed a team-high 15 digs.

Junior middle hitter Victoria Crumpton led Hatton (48-15) with 13 kills in the victory. Crumpton also added seven digs, one block and one service ace.

Junior middle hitter Mariah Cantrell recorded seven kills and one block. Freshman Sydney Terry contributed five kills and one assist.

Senior defensive specialist registered a team-high four service aces and eight digs. Senior setter Meagan Johnson contributed a team-high 25 assists and one service ace.
