The Troy Pre-Minor 8-and-Under squad is headed to the district championship game after scoring seven runs in the sixth inning to win Monday, 9-6.

After beating the Enterprise Americans, the Pre-Minor squad is ready to take on Greenville in the championship game at 6 tonight in Luverne.

The Troy team is 4-0 in the tournament and needs one win tonight to take the title. Winning district is as far as any team in the 8-and-Under league can go.

The Troy team headed into the sixth inning down 6-2. The rally started with a single by Colton Meeks. Then Charlie Tisdale doubled to center field to score Meeks.

Murphy Renfroe reached on an error, and Nick Lewis hit a rope down the third baseline, scoring Tisdale and Renfroe. Jackson Murphy hit double to right-center field, but Lewis was called out at home.

Bryson Gandy then hit a double to score Murphy. Grant Hughes hit a single to score Gandy. Jack LaBrant nearly hit a home run but only got a double out of his 200-foot shot to center field.

Reed Johnson grouded out to first base, and Christopher Farrar reached on an error and Tyler Hussey got a single, scoring LaBrant from second. Kobe Griffen struck out to end the top of sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Pre-Minor defense got three up and three down to win the game.

&#8220The Enterprise teams are great teams. It could have gone either way tonight, but the ball just bounced our way. I feel like the Lord is with us, and we just want to glorify him,” head coach Mike Johnson said.

Reed Johnson made a diving catch in right-center field in the second inning to stop a rally.

The 8-and-Unders beat its toughest competition on Sunday, the Enterprise Nationals 11-10.

The Troy team went up 5-2 after the first inning, and Gandy made a great defensive play in bottom half of the inning to stop a rally by the Nationals.

In the second inning, the Troy 8-and-Unders stretched their lead to 8-2. They went up 9-4 after the third inning, and this time it was Griffen who made a running catch in left field to end another rally by Enterprise.

In the fifth inning, the Nationals exploded on offensive and took a 10-9 lead. But the Troy Pre-Minor team fought back and scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning. With Enterprise coming up to bat in the bottom of the inning, the Troy defense got two quick outs. Then LaBrant made a diving catch at second base to make the last out of the game.

&#8220The defense continued to do very well,” Johnson said.

Hughes was sick and only able to bat one time. Although he got a hit, he had to sit out the rest of the game.

&#8220The other 11 (players) stepped up. We're getting a lot of lead runners, which is key,” Johnson said.

Murphy and Hussey were 2 for 3.

&#8220We are getting a lot of these runs with a lot of our best hitters not hitting,” Johnson said.

&#8220We scored 11 runs but some of these 11 runs were on errors. We had a lot of players who went 1 for 3 and a lot of fielder's choices.”

A van will caravan from the Troy Sportsplex at 4 p.m. for anyone who wants to cheer on the Troy team.
