Lady Trojans varsity lose, JV wins in Ariton

The Lady Trojans from Charles Henderson left Ariton with a sour taste after a 3-0 (17-25, 12-25, 21-25) loss at the hands of the Lady Purple Cats Tuesday.

CHHS had cut the Ariton lead from 21-12 to 24-21 in the third set before a fluke play involving CHHS junior Nick Jones ended the match.

“We were serving and Nick dropped the ball, it rolled down her arm and was called a sideout,” CHHS head coach Jennifer Sikes said. “Ariton won that point because there was no re-serve called.”

Sikes said it was one of the weirdest things she had ever seen called. But no matter what happened, she was proud of how her girls played.

“We never really got going until that third set, but I was proud of how they played in that final set,” Sikes said.

Sikes said sophomores Brittney Jackson, Lauren DeBruyne and Alison LeCroy helped out the team and Taylor Smartt was at her usual best.

“Taylor was all over the floor being normal Taylor,” Sikes said.

Sikes said the Lady Trojans were down starters Dalia Henley and Keyani Foster, but the team managed.

The JV Lady Trojans were all over the court and were communicating well Tuesday and they walked out of the gym with a 2-0 (25-18, 25-20) victory.

“They had it all clicking tonight,” Sikes said. “They were all communicating and it didn’t matter who played out there, they did great.”

The freshmen Lady Trojans travel to Louisville for a match with Barbour County Middle School Thursday and the JV and Varsity squads host Barbour County Monday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
