Upsets rule the day at the USTA Tennis Classic of Troy

Thursday’s action saw the top two seeds in the USTA Tennis Classic of Troy get eliminated from the action. Top-seeded Julie Ditty and second-seeded Olga Puchkova were both eliminated from singles play. Ditty holds the career record for most USTA tournament titles. There are eight remaining in the singles bracket including former Classic champion Shenay Perry.

In the doubles bracket the final four seeds are in the semifinals and will battle to play in the championship match.

The results from Thursday’s singles main draw action are as follows:

Georgie Stoop defeated top-seeded Julie Ditty 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

Ana Savic defeated second-seeded Olga Puchkova 6-0, 7-6 (7).

Fourth-seeded Catalina Castano defeated Lauren Embree 6-2, 6-3.

Sixth-seeded Nueza Silva defeated Alexandra Mueller 6-1, 6-0.

Melanie Oudin defeated Madison Brengle 7-5, 1-6, 6-1.

Shenay Perry defeated Sandy Gumulya 6-1, 6-2.

Abigail Spears defeated Sharon Fichman 6-2, 6-3.

Anna Tatishvili defeated Petra Rampre 6-1, 7-6(9).

The doubles results from Thursday’s action are as follows:

Top-seeded pair Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears defeated Lindsay Lee-Waters and Melanie Oudin 6-4,4-6 [10-8].

Second-seeded pair Angela Haynes and Sunitha Rao defeated Lauren Embree and Alexa Guarachi 6-2, 6-1.

Third-seeded pair Nueza Silva and Nicole Thyssen defeated Mallory Cecil and Megan Moulton-Levy 3-6, 7-5 [10-4].

Fourth-seeded pair Madison Brengle and Anna Tatishvili defeated Brittany Augustine and Jennifer Elie 6-7(4), 6-2 [10-7].

Singles Matches will begin at 10 a.m. this morning at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. There will be a break in order to allow rest for singles players that are also playing in doubles matches today. Doubles matches will begin after the players have had sufficient rest.
