It’s official—Steven Coleman will be the new District 5 representative on the Brundidge City Council.

After coming out victorious in last Tuesday’s runoff election, Coleman was certified Tuesday morning by the city council to replace 16-year incumbent Isabell Boyd.

After the Aug. 26 city election left the District 5 seat in a tie, Coleman defeated Boyd with a 152 to 118 votes in Oct. 7’s runoff.

But, he won’t officially take office until Nov. 3 when he, and all other city council members are sworn into office.

“It’s a dream come true,” Coleman said, after his election was canvassed. “I’m excited that the people chose me to represent them in city hall, and I want to send a special thank you to the people of District 5 for supporting me in this endeavor.”

Even though Coleman won’t take office until November, he is already planning a “Day of Fun” for the people of his district.

On Nov. 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Galloway Park, Coleman said all members of the district and the community will be invited to bring the whole family out to enjoy the festivities.

Coleman said they will have a moonwalk and train rides, hamburgers and hotdogs and cotton candy for children.

“It’s just District 5’s day, but everyone in the city is invited,” Coleman said.

Aside from the celebration, Coleman said he is preparing for his first council meeting in November.

“I just recently received all my books and right now, I’m studying all my books and trying to be ready to be productive at my first meeting,” Coleman said.

“I’ll be working as diligently as I can, but keep in mind, I’m just getting here, and it’s going to take some time.”
