Shelter dogs up for adoption this weekend

The Troy Animal Shelter is nearing its limit.

That means that the number of pups at the pound will have to be reduced. So, the timing is perfect for the Pike Animal Shelter’s Bow Wow-Pow Wow.

From 1 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, the Shelter pups will be presented for adoption at Murphree Park and all animal lovers are invited to the pups’ “coming out party.”

“At this time, we have 19 dogs that will be available for adoption,” said Donna Schubert, Founders Society chair. “But that’s just a rough estimate and that could change by Saturday. Some of the animals might be adopted before then or others could be brought to the shelter. But, we know that we will have at least 10 dogs that will make good family pets available for adoption.”

Hearts are won and adoptions are made easy at the Bow Wow-Pow Wow.

“All that is asked and required is that the person adopting sign an agreement to take care of the dog and that they will have it spayed or neutered,” Schubert said. “That’s the law but we just ask for a promise.”

There’s no adoption fee and the new family pet can go immediately to its new home.

Schubert said the Bow Wow- Pow Wow is a unique shelter dog adoption opportunity.

“Those who looking for a shelter dog get to visit with the animals in a natural setting and do some ear scratching,” Schubert said. “It’s a chance to see how the animal responds to the prospective family. This is a very different setting from viewing an animal in the shelter.”

The Pike Animal Shelter will have a lemonade stand with information about the Pike Animal Shelter and its mission.

The Bow Wow-Pow Wow will be a convenient time to learn more the Pike Animal Shelter and to consider membership.
