The Pike County Chamber of Commerce Farm City Committee announced the 2020 Farm City award winners at the Wednesday meeting at the Murphree Park Pavilion.

Dana Sanders, Chamber president, had congratulations for the award winners who will be recognized “virtually” at the Pike County Chamber of Commerce Farm City Program on Thursday, November 12, on Troy Cable Channel 2.

The 2020 Farm City Award recipients are: Charles Long, beef; Chase Flowers, Fixed Wing Farm, poultry; Thompson Timber Farm, timber; Justin Garrett, row crops; Kevin Ward, conservation; Brock Davis, young farmer; Addison Garrott, youth female; Slade Outlaw, youth male, the late Tammy Powell, Service to Agriculture; and Pike County Cooperative, business award.

“We invite everyone to attend our virtual 2020 Farm-City Awards program as we recognize those in Pike County farming community who have made outstanding contributions to farming and agriculture during the year 2020,” Sanders said. “We will also recognize the winners of the ‘200 Years of Alabama Agriculture’ poster and essay award winners.”

The 2020 Farm City Awards will be presented by Dick Barnett, Pike County Cattlemen’s Association president; Carol Nicholson, County Executive Director, Pike County Farm Service Agency; and Ryan Wood, Acting District Conservationist, Pike County Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Of added interest to the first ever virtual Pike County Farm City Awards “Banquet,” will be a video of the 2020 Farm City Job Swap.

“Russell Johnson, broker/timber buyer and Pike County Commissioner, and Marcus Paramore, Troy University director of government relations and Troy City Council Member, will swap jobs for a day. Each will learn about what the other does from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each weekday and decide whether they would or could fill the other’s work shoes.

The Pike County Chamber of Commerce Pike County Farm City Committee is an award-winning volunteer group that works throughout the year to strengthen and promote the relationship between Pike County’s rural and urban communities.
