Longtime Troy businessman William “Bill” Jackson died at his home on Sunday, September 20, 2020, following an extended illness. Jackson was 81.

Jackson was not a native of Troy but no one would have ever known, said Jimmy Lunsford, Pike County Economic Development, Corp.

“Bill purchased a General Motors franchise in Troy in 1989 and quickly became a leader in the business community and in civic organizations,” Lunsford said. “Bill was dedicated to Troy and a strong supporter of education and served on the local board of education.”

Lunsford said, while Jackson served his community, he continued to work diligently to grow his franchise and was very successful at doing so.

“I read where Bill operated General Motors franchises through five recessions and received many industry awards,” Lunsford said. “Those two factors are an indication of the kind of business man Bill Jackson was. We have lost an outstanding member of our community. His contributions were well known and greatly appreciated.”

State Rep. Wes Allen said Jackson was a great friend and a great American. “Bill loved Pike County and he leaves a great legacy,” Allen said.  Hen is survived by his wife, Jean, and sons, James William Jackson, Jr. and his wife, Jana of Troy and Keith Jackson and his wife, Tricia, of Homewood. Jackson has four grandchildren.
