Incumbent Brundidge Mayor Isabell Boyd will face former mayor Jimmy Ramage in the October 6 municipal runoff election.

The Brundidge City Council met in special session at 10 a.m. Monday to resolve the status of two provisional votes cast in the municipal election on August 25.

Council members present were Boyd and council members, Betty Baxter, District 1; Alexandria Griffin, District 2; and Byron Gaynor, District 4. Margaret Ross, District 3, and Chris Foster, District 5 were not in attendance.

Linda Faust, Brundidge city clerk, said two provisional votes were cast at the precinct.

“The ballots were sealed and have not been opened,” Faust said. “The status of the ballots was resolved by the Pike County Board of Registrars. One ballot was rejected because the voter was not registered at the time of the election on August 25. The other ballot was accepted.”

Faust said the outcome of the mayor’s race and the District 3 race could have been impacted by the provisional ballot.

To retain the mayor’s seat on the Brundidge City Council, Boyd needed one provisional ballot vote to give her 50 percent of the votes cast plus 1. However, the mayor’s vote on the provisional ballot went to candidate Anthony Foster forcing a run-off between Boyd and Ramage.

In the August 25 election, Boyd led Ramage 429 votes to 201.

Boyd had 179 absentee votes and 250 precinct votes. Ramage tallied 52 absentee votes and 149 precinct votes.

Boyd and Ramage have served together on the Brundidge City in years past but have not faced each other on the ballot.

Following the resolution of the provisional vote, Boyd said she will “hit the road running,” while Ramage said he is facing an uphill battle.

“But, I’m going to run a hard campaign and I’m going to do my best,” Ramage said.

“I’m going to run on what we were able to do when I served our city as its mayor and on what I can bring to the table – long-time experience in city government and contacts that can be beneficial as we move Brundidge forward.”

In the August 25 municipal election, District 3 Council Member Margaret Ross led challengers Henry Everett and Angie Kelly by three votes.

The accepted provisional ballot had no impact on the District 3 race.
