A break-in at Pike Drugs on  South Main Street in downtown Brundidge was reported to the Brundidge Police Department at 5:15 a.m. Thursday by a jogger who was making an early morning run.

“The jogger noticed that the side panel along the front door of Pike Drugs had been broken,” said Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport. “Entry was made through the door. The security alarm did not go off and had not been damaged so it apparently malfunctioned.”

Using data from a security camera, Davenport said it was determined that the break-in occurred around 2:15 a.m.

“It appeared that whoever entered the building was there looking for Xanax,” Davenport said. “Several other items were missing but, apparently, Xanax is what they were there for.”

Davenport said evidence of the break-in was left on the grounds off the former Brundidge City Hall (Bass House) and several bottles of medicine were found at the pavilion also on the grounds also on South Main Street.

“The break-in remains under investigation,” Davenport said. “We ask anyone with any information —a truck, car or pedestrian— seen in that area around 2 a.m. Thursday to contact us. It would be helpful in finding who is responsible for the break-in. The number to call is 334-735-3333.
