The Johnson Center for the Arts is hosting two exciting exhibits during the month of January.

Wiley White, JCA exhibition coordinator, said the exhibitions will feature Montgomery artist Winfred Hawkins in the upper level gallery and Birmingham artist Leanna Leithauser Lesley in the lower level gallery.

“Winfred Hawkins creates really eclectic art portraits,” White said. “He designed the roundels that are located inside the Rosa Park Museum and has just completed a mural on the façade of a building on Madison Avenue in Montgomery.”

White said Lesley is well-known for her needlepoint portraits of noted jazz musicians. She also creates needlepoint on chairs, clothing, cellphone covers and other items.

“We are excited to have these two very talented Alabama artists exhibit their work at the Johnson Center,” White said. “There will be an artists’ reception for Leanna and Winfred on Thursday, January 16.  We encourage everyone to make plans to visit the JCA to view their artwork prior to January 16 and to join us for the reception and learn more about the artists’ work from Leanna and Winfred themselves.”

The 2019 Christmas Tree Extravaganza and Susan Berry’s Nutcracker collection are featured in the JCA’s upper gallery and the Challenge14 exhibit is in the lower gallery.

The JCA’s holiday hours are Saturday, December 28, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, January 3, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday, January 4 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Admission to the JCA is free.
