The Burning Bush Cowboy Church will host the inaugural Bluegrass Gospel Jam at 6:30 Friday night at the church next to Cattlemen Park on Highway 231 south of Troy.

Alvie Walker, church pastor, said plans are to host the Bluegrass Gospel Jam the first Friday of each month.

“A lot of people in our area enjoy bluegrass and gospel music,” Walker said. “So, the Burning Bush Cowboy Church wants to provide an opportunity and a place for pickers to bring their instruments and play and, for those who just enjoy the music, to come and listen.”

Tommy and Tina and Arnold Sheppard and his group will be leading the jam on Friday night.

“We are hoping for a good crowd for the first Burning Bush Cowboy Church Bluegrass-Gospel Jam Friday night, Walker said. “The jamming will be good; we’ll have snacks and everyone will have a good time. We’ll play until around 9 o’clock.”

The Burning Bush Cowboy Church started in January 2015 as a place of worship for those who are a part of the Western culture.

“The idea behind the church was to provide a place for the Western culture people to worship where they would be comfortable wearing their Wester attire,” Walker said. “We have a large number of people in our area who have cattle and horses and those that just appreciate the Western culture.”

Walker said Burning Bush Cowboy Church plans more community events that highlight the Western culture.

“In September, we hosted a Chuck Wagon Cook-Off and we had a good turnout of local people,” he said. “We are looking for a wagon so that our church can travel and participate in cook-offs hosted by other Cowboy Churches.”

For now, the First Friday Bluegrass-Gospel Jams are the focus of the Burning Bush Cowboy Church. Everyone is invited. Admission is free.
