In true slugfest style, the Troy Trojans took out the Samford Bulldogs Wednesday night 17-11 in Birmingham to sweep the season series with Samford.

Troy scored early and took a 7-1 lead, but Samford (11-21) came back and took a lead. But the Trojans (19-13) kept the runs coming and pulled out the win with five runs in the eighth and four in the ninth.

Josh Storm picked up the win for Troy and David Knapp was saddled with the loss for Samford.

Adam Bryant led the Trojans with three home runs and six RBIs. He was 4-for-6 at the plate. Miles Hoyle and Charley Williams each added a home run for Troy.

Hoyle put the Trojans on top in the top of the second inning with a three-run home run, plating J.R. Myers and Brett Henry. Henry reached on a double and Myers walked to reach base.

Samford answered in the bottom of the inning with one run. Bo Smith doubled, advanced to third on a balk and scored on a wild pitch for the Bulldogs first run. Troy starter Andrew Dickinson got out of the inning with no more runs surrendered.

Troy jumped back on the Bulldogs with two runs in the top of the third. Chad Watson opened the inning with a single, Steven Felix walked, Michael Precise put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up to second and third and Ryan Ditthardt singled Watson and Felix home for a 5-1 lead.

Troy added two more runs in the fourth inning on a Bryant home run that scored Hoyle. Hoyle reached on a single.

Samford again answered the Troy inning with runs of its own. David Schulze walked and Smith drilled a home run down the right field line to cut the Troy lead to 7-3.

Samford continued the threat by loading the bases, but Troy reliever Drew Hull got out of the bases loaded, no outs jam by getting a pop up and double play.

Troy went quietly in the fifth and Samford cut into the lead again in the bottom of the fifth with one run.

Mason Meredith was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Smith to cut the lead to 7-4.

Troy again went easily in the sixth inning, but Samford took its first lead of the night with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Troy tied the game in the seventh with one run and took a 13-8 lead with five runs in the eighth. Samford came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning and Troy padded the lead with four runs in the ninth.
