There’s a first time for everything and more than 80 Brundidge residents turned out of Outdoor Movie Night at The Bass Friday night.

Spentressia Fenn, who organized the first outdoor movie in Brundidge was more than pleased with the response.

“I wanted to do this and I thought we would have good response but I’m overwhelmed,” Fenn said. “If 30 people had come, I would have been please but, yes, I’m overwhelmed.”

Fenn, a native of Brundidge, now works and lives in Birmingham but her heart is at “home.”

“I wanted to do something for my hometown,” she said. “I especially wanted to do something for the kids, something fun and something to bring people together – families, friends and neighbors. Tonight, that happened.”

The movie was “Justice League” and it attracted people of all ages, from the young kids to teens and grandparents and those in between.

“I wanted to make this a real outdoor movie experience with a family atmosphere,” Fenn said. “People brought lawn chairs and blankets and we had popcorn and colas. It was a great night to be in Brundidge.”

Fenn purchased the huge blow-up screen and projector with support from a Birmingham organization of which she is a part, Cleve Girls Cleve Boys Birmingham.

Locally, Shawn Terry, Nicholas Collins and Derek Scott Enterprises volunteered their time and efforts to the outdoor movie venture.

“I had already planned another movie for this summer and it didn’t really hinge on ‘opening night,’” Fenn said. “But the great turnout for the Brundidge’s first outdoor movie certainly gives us something to look forward to with excitement.”

The next Outdoor Movie Night at The Bass will be on Saturday, July 6.

The featured movie will be ‘The Secret Life of Pets’, which Fenn said is about how the life of a terrier named Max is turned upside down when his owner brings home a sloppy stray mongrel.

“It’s a family-friendly movie and we invite everyone to come early and enjoy more family fun before the movie starts ad 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.”

Brundidge Mayor Isabell Boyd attended the Friday night movie and she, too, was excited that so many attended the city’s first outdoor movie at the Bass House in downtown Brundidge.

“I don’t know how to thank Spentressia for this wonderful opportunity for the people of Brundidge,” Boyd said. “For someone to come home and do something for our community is so exciting and encouraging. I can’t say ‘thank you’ enough to Spentressia for wanting to make a difference in her hometown.”

Boyd said the event was well attended and greatly appreciated.

“It was also well supervised,” she said. “Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport was here and one of his officers.  Everything went off with ease. We are looking forward to the next movie night on July 6. It will be another great family night in Brundidge.”
