The first session for Troy University’s Impact will be Monday, June 17, providing an opportunity for different organizations on campus and in the community to showcase their opportunities to new students.

“Impact is our freshman orientation and transfer orientation that takes place throughout the summer,” said Birdie Howell, the assistant director of Impact.

Incoming freshmen and transfers will “have an opportunity to meet with students from the university and they will be able to get acquainted with student life here on campus,” Howell said.

The freshman students Impact session is a two-day event and they will get to experience the dorms, in an overnight stay. The transfer students, however, will have a condensed session fitting everything into a one-day event.

“Starting on Monday they will do a ton of fun stuff, meet with other incoming students, eat in the dining hall, and that night we take them to Camp Butter and Egg,” Howell said.

After spending the night in the dorms, freshman students will schedule their classes the following day. “The main thing the students will do is get their fall schedules,” explained Howell.

This year Troy University has 14 Impact leaders making up seven groups who are excited to meet the incoming students.

There are nine total sessions over the summer, and the first seven are already full, leaving only the last two sessions available for sign ups.

“At the beginning of the school year on August 12, the first week of school, we also have a session that we call the ‘last chance session,’” Howell said.. This is for students who may have missed the chance to go to Impact and it’s where they can register for classes.
