“Making Alabama: A Bicentennial Traveling Exhibit” is coming to Pike County June 10-21. The exhibition will provide the people with a unique opportunity to celebrate 200 years of Alabama statehood.

The traveling exhibit of Alabama’s storied history is presented by the Alabama Humanities Foundation in partnership with the Alabama Bicentennial Commission and Alabama Department of Archives and History and is hosted by the City of Brundidge.

“However, this is a Pike County event and those from surrounding counties and areas are also invited to come and learn more about the state we call home,” said Lawrence Bowden, president of the Brundidge Historical Society whose members will serve as docents for the exhibition.

Bowden said, from a fledging U.S. territory in 1817 to becoming the nation’s 22nd state on December 14, 1819, the state is proudly showcasing the people and places that have shaped the history of Alabama.

“The ‘Making Alabama’ bicentennial traveling exhibition is traveling to all 67 Alabama counties from April 2018 to December 2019,” Bowden said. “The exhibition will be in Brundidge from June 10-21 at the Pike County High School Arts Center on South Main Street.”

The hours for the public exhibition will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from  4 until 7 p.m. during the week. Group reservations for other days and times may be made by calling Brundidge City Hall at 334-735-2385.

“This exhibition is an opportunity to learn more about the history of Alabama or just to refresh your memory about people that have made Alabama great and the places of historical significance,” Bowden said. “The City of Brundidge is honored to have the opportunity to host the ‘Making Alabama: A Bicentennial Traveling Exhibit. It is a very impressive exhibit and most of us will learn things about our state that we didn’t know and things that will give us even more pride as Alabamians.”

Bowden expressed appreciation to the Alabama Humanities Foundation, the Alabama Bicentennial Commission and the Alabama Department of Archives and History for making the exhibition available and to the City of Brundidge as host and to the Pike County Board of Education for allowing the PCHS art center to house exhibit.
