The citizens of Goshen will honor those from Goshen High School who served in the United States military from 1935 until 1975 with the unveiling of a plaque in their honor at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 at Goshen Town Hall. The public is invited.

The dates, 1935 to 1975, include World War II, Korea, the Cold War and Vietnam. A total of 391 names of those from Goshen High School who served during those times of war and rumors of war are etched on the plaque.

The names on the plaque are included in a publication titled “Goshen High School Military Service 1935-1975, that was compiled by interested Goshen residents.

Bill Sanders said a group of interested citizens thought it would be appropriate and meaningful, now and for future generations, to recognize and honor the service of Goshen High School students who served in the military during those years with a plaque.

Sanders said the plaque is very impressive.

“The plaque is four feet and five inches in height and all the names in the book, ‘Goshen High School Military Service 1935-1975’ will be included,” he said. “May 25, 2019, will be a day for these men and women to be recognized and remembered. We hope to have a large number of those who served and/or their family members at the unveiling.”

Gene Nelson, retired military and former Goshen High School principal, will be the featured speaker for the unveiling ceremony.

Sanders said there will be time for photos with the plaque and for fellowship following the program until 2 p.m.
