Bo Coppage will take over the representation of District 3 on the Troy City Schools Board of Education after being appointed by the Troy City Council Tuesday.

“I have a son graduating from this system and a daughter who is about to be in eighth grade in this system,” Coppage said. “They asked me to serve and I said I’m willing.”

Council President Marcus Paramore, who recommended Coppage for the seat, said Coppage will bring good insight to the board.

“I think he’ll be a good fit,” Paramore said. “He brings a business sense, not only from working at Troy Bank and Trust, but from owning multiple businesses as well. He will bring some food solid business sense to the board and he is also heavily involved in the school system, so I think he will be a great asset.”

Coppage will be replacing Wally Lowery, who served two terms on the board.

“Wally is a great friend and I appreciate him serving on the school board,” Paramore said. “A lot of good things have happened for our schools during his tenure. I thank him for giving his time and effort.”

Superintendent Dr. Lee Hicks also thanked Lowery for his service.

“He has been instrumental in the successes we’ve had,” Hicks said. “He’s been a vocal leader and the school system is far better since him being there. We’ll miss him on the board, and of course, we welcome Mr. Coppage. He will do a fantastic job and hopefully by tomorrow we’ll have a chance to talk and hear his perspective and ideas for the system and get him registered for all the trainings he will now have to go through with the state.”
