The Southeast Alabama Community Band’s “Sousa on the Square Concert” in the spring of 2018 was enjoyed with such enthusiasm by the community that the band will give an encore performance on Monday, April 15, on the downtown square in Troy.

And, this time it will not be just a Sousa concert, it will be a “Sousapalooza” said band member Peter Howard.

“We be playing 10 of Sousa’s greatest marches and each will be introduced with brief historical comments by Ralph Black.”

Howard said Sousapalooza will be a sort of “Your ‘Sousa’ Hit Parade.”

The program will include quickly recognizable Sousa favorites including, the “Star-Spangled Banner,” “Semper Fidelis,” “Stars and Stripes Forever” and “America the Beautiful.” And some of Sousa’s marches will be familiar in tune but not by name, such as “The Washington Post” and “The Liberty Bell.”

Howard said the community is invited to the outdoor concert on April 15 on the square in downtown Troy.

“Admission to Sousapalooza is free,” Howard said. “Bring along lawn chairs and a snack or pick up something at one of the downtown eateries. The concert will be a great time to visit with friends and let the kids march around while the band plays.”

Howard, laughingly, said after mailing in taxes on “that” day tax payers will probably need something to pick up their spirits and “what better than a Sousa march?”

In the event of more than a spring shower, the rain date will be April 22.
