The Pike County Cattlemen’s Annual Equipment Auction is set for Saturday, April 6 and already people are loading up in anticipation of yet another opportunity to put their equipment, wares and so-forth on the auction block.

Johnny Garrett, Cattlemen treasurer, said the Cattlemen will begin accepting items for sale from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

“We’ll accept items from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. next week Monday through Thursday,” Garrett said. “It will take us all day on Friday to get ready from the sale on April 6. We expect another big auction because we’ll accept anything and everything except tires, propane bottles and animals.”

With a wide-open auction opportunity like that, Garrett said the Pike County Cattlemen’s Annual Equipment Auction is an opportunity for people to get cash for items they no longer need or find useful.

“We’ll have big items and small items and items in between,” he said. “We’ve had cars, boats, plows and bed frames, he said. “We just never know what people will bring but there will be somebody around that will buy it.”

The Cattlemen’s auction is an absolute auction, meaning that everything sells at the bid price.

“If an item doesn’t sell for what the owner thinks it’s worth, he or she can buy it back for a buy-back fee,” Garrett said. “Of course, you have to stay with your item or items if you think you might want to buy them back. Everything will be sold one way or the other and most always everybody goes away happy.”

Garrett said the Pike County Cattlemen greatly appreciate those who sell and those who buy.

The money raised by the annual equipment auction helps with the upkeep of Cattlemen Park, the building and the grounds. It also supports the Pike County Cattlemen’s calf show payout and the scholarship program,

“We’ve been giving 10 $500 scholarships and plans to give four $1,000 scholarships, one to each of the four high schools in the county,” Garrett said. “We like to do what we can and help out when we can. We really appreciate the support we get from the people in and around Pike County.”

Garrett said the Cattlemen will be at Cattlemen Park Saturday, Sunday and Monday through Thursday to accept items for auction.

That’s plenty of them to look around the house and barn for those items that could be turned into cash at the Pike County Cattlemen’s Equipment Auction from 8 a.m. until on Saturday, April 6,
