Dorothy Mallory came home to Troy on Thursday after undergoing a kidney transplant at UAB in Birmingham on February 19.

Mallory is an employee of the Pike County Commission and the wife of Pike County Deputy Sheriff Sam Mallory.

“Dorothy is doing good and we are glad to have her home,” Sam Mallory said. “We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and we ask for continued prayers. The Good Lord has provided and we so thankful.”

Mallory said while in Birmingham he saw so many people with different medical conditions. “It’s such a blessing to have places and people that can provide the medical care that is needed,” he said.

Mallory said his wife will continue to be watched closely with lab work in Montgomery two days a week for six weeks and then every other week. There will also be monthly visits to UAB.

Mallory said it was uplifting to know people at home were praying for his wife and that people truly cared.

A benefit fish fry was held at Mama Jane’s to assist with the medical expenses incurred by Dorothy Mallory’s illness and a kidney transplant.

Pike County Commissioner Homer Wright initiated the idea for the fundraiser through the Pike County Sheriff’s Department on Monday and on Friday the fish were in the cooker.

The Mama Jane’s Coffee Club and the Troy United Women’s League got the word out about the fundraiser and the community responded.

“This fundraiser was a community effort,” said Debra Frazier, TUWL member.

“Everybody we asked was ready to do what they could. Nobody said no. This was Troy coming together to help; the entire community responded in such a wonderful way.”
