Troy City School Superintendent Lee Hicks announced on Tuesday that Charles Henderson High School will receive a $7,750 grant from the Alabama Governor’s Office for LED lighting.

Hicks made the announcement during the TCS board of Education meeting on Tuesday night.

The board also unanimously approved a resolution to declare this week “American Education Week” at Troy City Schools.

“Public schools are the backbone of our democracy,” Hicks said.

The resolution coincides with the national recognition of American Education Week, which “celebrates public education and honors individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education” according to the National Education Association.

Hicks also announced that sales tax revenue was up over three percent from last year with $279,919 coming in this month. Utility spending for the schools came in at approximately $50,000, down over 4 percent from the same period last year.

The board also approved the following personnel action:

• Patricia Sharpe retiring from her position as records clerk with Troy Elementary School.

• Debra Pinchon resigning from her position as Child Nutrition Program manager at Troy Elementary School.

• Melanie Coleman transferring from her role as child nutrition program cook to Child Nutrition Program manager at Troy Elementary School.

• Hiring Renea Fielder as a Child Nutrition Program cook.

The next meeting of the board will be on Monday, December 19 at 5:15 p.m.
