Trojans sweep Trinity with a pair of walk-off victories

The Trojans of Charles Henderson High won two games against Trinity in the bottom of the seventh inning in each contest by scores of 3-2 and 8-7 Tuesday night at Hogan’s Hole in Troy.

Chase Hartley singled to drive in two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and give CHHS a 3-2, come-from-behind win over Trinity in the first game, while Devan Suddith doubled to drive in two runs for another come-from-behind, 8-7 win in the second game.

CHHS improved its record to 23-4 with the double-header sweep.

Trinity had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning of the first game, but Jabronski Williams of CHHS started off the rally with a single, Bryson Gandy singled, Nick Lewis was hit by a pitch and Hartley singled up the middle to score Williams and Gandy for the 3-2 victory.

Carson Tucker had given the Trojans a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when he singled, Williams walked, Lewis singled and with the bases loaded Hartley picked up his first of three RBI’s with a base on balls.

Trinity tied the score 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning and went up 2-1 in the top of the seventh.

Grant Hughes picked up the victory for CHHS in relief, as Hartley worked the first three innings, Graham Wilkes the fourth and fifth innings and Hughes worked the sixth and seventh innings. Hartley struck out three while Hughes fanned two.

Williams and Lewis had two of the nine hits for CHHS in the first game, while Gandy, Hartley, Devan Suddith, Eric Lee and Carson Tucker had one hit apiece.

In the second game CHHS took a 1-0 lead when Williams doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Lewis.

Trinity went up scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning, but CHHS tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth when Jackson Murphy singled, DQ Toney pinch-ran for Murphy, Charlie Tisdale doubled and Toney later scored on an infield error to make it 3-2.

The Wildcats added another run in the top of the fifth inning to go ahead 4-2, and added three runs in the top of the sixth inning for the 7-2 lead.

CHHS added another run in the bottom of the sixth when Murphy doubled, Toney ran for Murphy, and Toney scored on a single by Tisdale, and Tisdale scored on a fielder’s choice and Williams singled to make the score 7-5.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Lewis singled, Hartley walked, Tisdale singled to drive in Lewis, and Suddith doubled to drive in Hartley and Tisdale and win the game.

The Trojans are in action again Friday for a double-header on the road at Northview of Dothan.
